David, 58, is semi-retired from a 40 year career in local authority sport For the last couple of years he has spent much of his time actively supporting community sport in a voluntary capacity. David is Director of the Surrey County Playing Fields Association, and also sits on the Surrey Sports Board and the Farnham Sports Council. He also supports and advises the Surrey County Cricket Club and the Surrey County Football Association by sitting on various strategy groups. David ran a flagship Community Games event in 2012, inspiring and galvanising a wide range of partners to come together to deliver the Farnham Community Games. David epitomised the way partnership working can really make a difference by uniting people to work towards delivering a great local event, which included 31 sports and attracted over 1,000 people on the August bank holiday. The event was a great success for the clubs in terms of boosting membership and raising awareness of their activities, and it was ideal for the community to come and try out loads of different activities all in one place. David is now planning the 2013 event! He was also a 'Surrey Ambassador' for the 2012 Olympic cycling events which were held in Surrey, and over the years has done a lot of junior coaching, including being the team manager for his elder son's football age group and his younger son's cricket age group. He just loves sport!

A Community Liaison Manager for Carillion, 57 year old Tizzy’s contribution to the ‘Time to Shine’ project has been invaluable since it started, and has taken it upon herself to become the Volunteer Coordinator of the project. In this role, she maintains year-round contact with the dedicated project volunteers in both a professional and personal capacity, as well as continuously raising awareness of the project with the aim of fundraising and recruiting new volunteers wherever she goes. Tizzy’ s commitment to the project, to the young people’s experiences and to the experiences of the other volunteers has meant that she has become an honorary member of the WheelPower team and the events wouldn’t function in the same way without her support. In the lead up to the events, she works tirelessly to allocate each volunteer a role suited to their interests and abilities, matched with the requirements of the young people that attend; all to ensure that everybody involved receives a fun and worthwhile experience. She also prepares all of the volunteer information packs, arranges the volunteer briefing, co-ordinates a volunteer lunch ahead of the events so that everybody can meet and get to know each other beforehand and writes individual thank you notes to each volunteer for their support. Tizzy is so much more than your average volunteer to the ‘Time to Shine’ programme; she is entirely dedicated to giving each young person a truly unique and fulfilled sporting experience, no matter what their individual abilities are. This is reflected in the many relationships she has created with the young people and their parents and carers during the events and the fact that everybody involved in ‘Time to Shine’ knows who she is. Tizzy’s husband Paul also gives a lot of his time to the Time to Shine events.

Leah volunteers with the Drama Group at the Youth Club. Previously a member of the Club, she has always given 100% support for any project or event that is organised. Leah was amazing in encouraging and motivating other young people to help at the 2013 Community Games and helped make the event a success.

Bubbly, 44, who is the Assistant Manager at a fitness centre, has been volunteering since her childhood. She has volunteered as a charity shop worker, in disability work, on the national committee of Student Volunteering England and as a Nightline (a student version of Samaritans) councillor. Bubbly has volunteered with Central YMCA for nine years now. Never missing a session, she has taught a very popular circuit class for many years and volunteers for the love of teaching, helping people and being active
