Congratulations Paul Simpson – West Yorkshire Sport Shining Light 2014

Nominated by West Yorkshire Sport, Paul is being passed on the baton from 2013 Shining Light Sue Abbot.

Paul is a truly inspirational character and is a valued volunteer at Community Games events. Paul has volunteered in Community Games in the past but this year is involved in three Community Games around the West Yorkshire area, Paul is dedicated to increasing provision of activities for people with disabilities, he has worked with Community Games event organisers to add provision for people with disabilities to these Community Games Event.

From initially been involved in past Community Games such as Deighton Carnival where Paul has delivered Table Tennis tasters, he has gone on to set up his own Learning Disabilities Table Tennis session which now highly successful and engages disabled participants on a weekly basis.

Paul illustrates how a Community Game can ultimately introduce people to new experiences/ activities and lead to them fulfilling their potential in sport/arts or culture activities (in Paul's case this is Table Tennis!).

Commenting on his involvement with Community Games, Paul commented, “Being involved is fantastic, for me it’s about providing an experience and engaging people in an all round event. Hopefully people might enjoy the activities that much they might start getting involved on a weekly basis.”
